Publishing and production · books and supporting materials

Prepare your book for the way you want to publish.

Crucible helps turn manuscripts and creative specifications into book interiors, covers, and supporting publishing materials. We agree the intended format and destination first, then prepare and check the files against those requirements, with editorial decisions remaining with you.

Publishing routes

Different destinations need different files. We scope the work to the route you choose.

DestinationThe relevant workStatus
Amazon KDPPrint interiors, covers, and listing materials prepared to KDP's specifications; ebook formatting where supported for the title.Print production demonstrated; ebook editions scoped per title
Your own store, including ShopifyDownloadable editions and product-page materials, with delivery arrangements scoped separately.Scoped option

A print-ready file and an ebook edition are different deliverables; each is checked against its own requirements.

The workflow

  • Prepare. The manuscript is validated against its own structure; anything ambiguous becomes a question to the publisher with a recommendation, not a silent fix.
  • Generate to the specification.Content is produced from the validated source and the publisher's recorded decisions — trim, format, pricing — which are applied, not re-asked.
  • Verify the file. The generated production file is checked against its specifications: page count, trim, embedded fonts, required and forbidden text, and fidelity to the source.
  • Editorial review. The publisher reviews the production package on a private page; the decision is recorded. Recorded specifications and checks provide a starting point for subsequent titles.

An illustrative production checklist

The kind of checklist a production file is judged against. Items are examples; the real list is set with the publisher and the destination.
